Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday condemned the alleged harassment faced by Miss England Milla Magee during her visit to Telangana, terming the incident against the State’s cultural ethos. He extended his solidarity with the Miss World contestant and demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations.

“It takes a lot of courage to stand up and call out misogynistic behaviour, especially on an international platform like Miss World,” he stated, in response to Milla Magee’s public disclosure of her unpleasant experience during the global beauty event held in Hyderabad.

He cited Telangana’s rich culture of respecting women and providing equal opportunities for growth.

“Some of the greatest leaders from our land are women like Rani Rudrama and Chityala Ailamma. Unfortunately, what you had experienced doesn’t represent the real Telangana. I hope you do feel better soon,” he added.

As a father of a girl child himself, the BRS working president wished that no woman or girl ever has to go through such horrific experiences. He also condemned attempts of victim gas lighting, to shift blame onto the victim and demanded for a thorough investigation into the allegations.

The 24-year-old contestant reportedly cited feelings of exploitation and a moral dilemma as the reasons behind her sudden exit. While her departure was initially explained as being due to “personal reasons,” she later revealed in an exclusive interview with The Sun that contestants were subjected to superficial treatment and a lack of respect.
