Hyderabad: One controversy after another continues to mar the Miss World 2025 beauty pageant, currently being held in Hyderabad.

What the Congress government touted as a prestigious jewel in Hyderabad’s vibrant crown has now turned into a major embarrassment for Telangana and the country.

Following the uproar over local women being made to wash the feet of beauty pageant contestants during their visit to the iconic Ramappa Temple, a more serious controversy is brewing.

Miss England, Milla Magee, has reportedly fled the competition, citing “superficial treatment and lack of respect toward contestants.”

In an interview with The Sun, reigning Miss England Milla Magee levelled serious allegations against the pageant organisers, stating that she “felt like a prostitute” and was “farmed out for entertainment.”

Branding the contest “outdated,” she added that some of the 109 finalists were given a dressing down by a female official for being “boring” after an event

“The point was to do good, promote change, and make a difference. But it became obvious that just wasn’t going to happen,” Milla told The Sun.

Revealing disturbing details, Milla said she realised she was only there to be ogled. She claimed contestants were instructed to “entertain middle-aged men as a thank you for the money they put into the show.”

“There were two girls at each table of six guests. We were expected to sit with them for the whole evening and entertain them,” she said.

Milla added: “At one point I tried to talk about the causes I was supporting but it was obvious the men at the table were not interested. Instead there was weird small-talk that left me feeling uncomfortable.

“I went out to make a difference, to help create a different future, perhaps inspire young people. Never in a million years did I expect to find myself in that situation. We were there to please these people and sit like performing monkeys. I couldn’t stand it.”

Milla added: “She clapped her hands right in my face to get my attention and as a signal for people to listen to her.

“It was so disrespectful, like she was addressing children rather than a coach full of adult women.

“It was a small incident but it showed what they really thought of us and how little respect we were being treated with,” Milla shared in her exclusive interview with The Sun.

With women Ministers like Konda Surekha and Seethakka addressing the contestants and proudly promoting Telangana Tourism’s new tagline, ‘Telangana Zaroor Aana’, the state government and event organisers were expected to take good care of the participants and make them feel welcome.

However, with the exit of Milla Magee, the apparent mismanagement and the alleged mistreatment of contestants have become glaring, resulting in international embarrassment.

Not only does this cast Telangana in a poor light, but it also brings disrepute to the country, given the event’s global viewership.

Milla left midway due to “family issue,” say organisers

Claiming that Milla Magee’s statements were “false and defamatory,” Julia Morley CBE, Chairwoman of Miss World, said that the reigning Miss England has withdrawn midway due to a “reported” family emergency involving her mother’s health.

“These claims are completely unfounded and inconsistent with the reality of her time with us,” Morley said.

Following her departure, Charlotte Grant, the first runner-up of Miss England, stepped in to represent her country. She arrived in India on Wednesday and has since been warmly welcomed into the Miss World sisterhood.

“Earlier this month, Milla Maggie requested to leave the competition due to a reported family emergency involving her mother’s health. As a mother and grandmother herself, Julia Morley said.
