Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised the Revanth Reddy government for acting inhumanely towards the most vulnerable sections of society. He invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings to condemn the government’s actions, particularly the demolition of homes in the name of HYDRAA and Musi Riverfront Development Project.

Commemorating Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at their birth anniversary celebrations held at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Rama Rao condemned the ongoing demolitions, stating that the government was elected to build and uplift, not to destroy the lives of the marginalized. He urged the State government to reconsider its decision to demolish the houses of the poor.

“Mahatma Gandhi himself said that the greatness of a government is known by how it supports the weakest in society. The Revanth Reddy government needs to be reminded of this,” he remarked, urging the Congress leadership in Delhi to take note of the inhumane policies being enacted by the State government and immediately stop the demolitions if they had any respect for Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings. The people of Telangana had elected the Congress to construct more houses for them, not to tear down the existing ones.

Meanwhile, the BRS working president interacted with the affected families of Musi Riverfront Development project who came to meet him at Telangana Bhavan, and assured that his party would stand with them in their fight against the government’s reckless policies. He announced that the BRS legal team at Telangana Bhavan would assist the victims of the Musi Riverfront project and HYDRAA demolitions, promising both legal and political support to prevent further harm to the poor.

“No house of the poor should be demolished,” he declared, calling the government’s actions evil and unjust, especially after citizens had received official permissions for their homes.

He also reminded them that under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure, the poor were treated with dignity and compassion, a stark contrast to the current administration’s methods. “BRS will fight for the people, both on the streets and in the courts,” he reiterated.
