Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday demanded that the Congress government cancel the flawed Group-1 Mains exam in the wake of the High Court verdict and conduct it afresh in line with aspirations of unemployed youth. He also called for appointment of a judicial commission, to probe the alleged irregularities.
Speaking to mediapersons after meeting the Group-1 aspirants who met him at his Nandi Nagar residence here, Rama Rao accused the Congress government of committing the biggest betrayal of the century against unemployed youth. Recalling Rahul Gandhi’s promise of two lakh jobs during electioneering in Telangana, he said instead of fulfilling its promise, the Congress had deceived youth with a hollow job calendar.
“When paper leaks occurred during BRS rule, exams were cancelled immediately to protect students’ interests. However, this Congress government ignored complaints and added just 63 posts to 500, and conducted Group-1 in a haphazard manner, hurting SC, ST, BC, minority and Telugu-medium candidates the most,” he charged.
The BRS working president said the court’s verdict had exposed large-scale irregularities in the exam conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC). He called for a judicial commission headed by a sitting or retired High Court or Supreme Court judge to probe corruption, job rackets and the role of brokers who exploited desperate aspirants. Besides ensuring justice to students, he wanted the government to punish those responsible for the irregularities.
He said the High Court had vindicated the students’ fight and slammed the government for ignoring repeated appeals from aspirants. “Do not indulge in petty politics at the cost of students’ futures. Remember, it is because of their votes that you are in power,” he warned.
Accusing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of misleading the public, Rama Rao said the Congress government claimed to have filled 60,000 jobs, when in reality only 6,000 had materialised. He demanded a special Assembly session to present real figures on recruitment and address contradictions among Ministers.
Congratulating students for their persistence, he urged the government to withdraw all cases filed against them during protests, as their struggle was proved just through the court verdict. “Suppressing unemployed youth is against the spirit of democracy. Justice has been delivered, now it must be implemented,” he said.
