Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has strongly condemned the arrest of Narsapur MLA Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, calling it an illegal and undemocratic move by the Congress government.

The BRS MLA was arrested while attempting to meet protestors opposing the GHMC dumping yard in Nallavalli and Pyaranagar villages of Sangareddy district.

In a statement, Rama Rao questioned the Congress government’s approach, stating that whether this is Indiramma Rajyam that they promised, where even an elected MLA does not have the right to protest.

He criticised the police for creating panic by arresting villagers in the middle of the night, similar to the crackdown in Lagacherla in Kodangal, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s constituency. Warning of further protests, he demanded the immediate release of the arrested MLA, BRS leaders, and villagers.

Former Minister Harish Rao also lashed out at the government, condemning the arrests. “It is shameful that the government is trampling on the voices of the locals while forcibly setting up a dumping yard,” he said.

He criticised the midnight arrests of BRS leaders and activists and the imposition of Section 144 in Nallavalli and Pyaranagar, which he termed an undeclared emergency.

The BRS leaders have demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy withdraw the decision to establish the dumping yard and respect the people’s voice. The party has warned of intensified protests if the government continues its undemocratic actions.
