Gadwal: IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao launched the Palamuru model village concept in Gadwal town.
The concept was initiated by Palamuru University vice-chancellor Prof Laxmi Kanth Rathod under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan (UBA). The village empowerment programme with academic expertise is a flagship programme under UBA, an initiative of the Ministry of Education and IIT Delhi being the national coordinating agency.
Gramodaya Chamber of Commerce and Technology (GCOT), a non-profit social enterprise established by Osmania University alumni came forward to facilitate the concept execution in driving Indian villages towards self-sufficiency.
A press release said the primary objective of UBA was to link higher educational institutions through technology for rural empowerment after finding the gap interventions during the baseline survey. The GCOT came with a unique model of preparing a village monograph focusing more on qualitative data to compile the socio-cultural ethnographic profile of the village.
GCOT will find ways and means after thoroughly studying villages to fill the gaps for all-around village empowerment. It will also identify non-resident villagers (NRVs) to contribute to village activities as a payback to society.
Youth empowerment through skill development, women empowerment through capacity building in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), understanding cooperative models, enabling best practising models for farmers, market linkage, identifying alternative medical practices and coopting local fine and folk arts are the other focusing areas.
Telangana State Council of Higher Education is planning to chalk out the road map in customizing UBA principles for local Telangana needs by associating with GCOT. Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Tourism and Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud, Roads and Buildings Minister V Prashant Reddy and others were present at the function held on Tuesday
