MA&UD ensures rapid development despite pandemic

Hyderabad: Despite lockdown and its adverse impact, State government launched first waste-to-energy plant in South India at Jawaharnagar, construction and demolition waste management plant at Jeedimetla, cable bridge at Durgam Cheruvu and executed numerous works during 2020-21 financial year. Adhering to Covid guidelines, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department executed and completed different welfare and development works across the State during the last financial year.
An amount of Rs 2,062.86 crore was released under Pattana Pragathi to ULBs during the year, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao releasing the department’s annual report 2020-21 here on Friday. Among all, the 20 KL per month free water supply scheme was announced for all the households (domestic connections) in GHMC area and implemented successfully, much to the delight of women. Further, to provide water to emerging urban areas of Hyderabad Urban agglomeration, HMWSSB has taken up 18 kms of 3,000 MM diameter pipeline, which is an extension of ring main (a network of pipelines) to bring River Godavari water, at a cost of Rs.285 crore to ensure supply of sufficient drinking water.
The Minister complimented MA&UD Department as Telangana stands first in the country so far in implementation of PM Svanidhi programme under which Rs.347 crore worth loans were sanctioned to 3,47,006 Street vendors. The State government arranged bank loans of Rs 1,759.76 crore for 37,390 SHGs against targeted Rs 1,249.34 crores. This has helped the SHGs during the Covid times.
During the first lockdown, Annapurna meals, including dinner, were provided through 373 centres for free. The total meals served during 2020-21 are a whopping 2,53,97,580.
On the medical infrastructure front, a total of 224 Basthi Dawakhanas are currently being operated in GHMC limits and 33 new Basthi Dawakhanas are ready for inauguration. According priority to increasing green cover, especially in urban Telangana, the number of nurseries was increased from 168 to 1002 in 141 ULBS, registering a growth of 596 per cent. Further, 600 nurseries in GHMC and 1,401 Pattana Prakruthi Vanalu (tree parks) were established during the year.
Sensitising people on sanitation, over 4,118 public toilets were completed, 1,898 sanitation vehicles were procured, FSTPS were completed in seven ULBs and Animal care centers were established in 15 ULBs. A first-of-its-kind trauma care facility in the country was introduced on Outer Ring Road (ORR) by the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) at 10 interchanges rendering different medical services for any emergency or accidents taking place on ORR. The Trauma care system aided in saving over 110 lives and extended first aid care to 225 persons immediately after accident.
Similarly, LED street lighting on ORR for balance stretch of length 136 Km was commenced duly finalising the tenders at a cost of Rs 100.22 crore in four packages with 12 months completion period. This illumination will facilitate in improving safety of road users on ORR and control any anti-social activities.
