Hyderabad: Alleging blatant double standards by the Congress government, BRS working president KT Rama Rao questioned Ministers meeting with Greenko representatives at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
He said the Congress was branding the Formula-E issue involving the company as a scam in Hyderabad, while its Ministers were sitting across the table with the same company’s representatives at Davos.
Speaking at an informal interaction with media persons at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Rama Rao asked whether agreements were being signed, backroom deals struck, or pressure tactics employed to extract money in return for dropping cases against the company.
“On one hand, they accuse us of wrongdoing, and on the other, they sit across the table with the same company in Davos,” he said.
The former Minister asked whether the government was trying to protect Greenko by carrying bags, or whether the company was being threatened to extract money in return for withdrawing cases. He pointed out that Ministers were meeting several people in Davos, including an Andhra Pradesh BJP MP, and said such actions raised serious questions about the Congress government’s intentions and credibility.
Turning to the upcoming municipal elections, Rama Rao warned that a vote for Congress would effectively amount to public consent for the abolition of districts. He said anxiety was already palpable in newly created districts such as Jangaon, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, Siddipet, Sircilla, Nirmal and Mancherial, amid fears that the Congress government intended to undo district reorganisation.
The BRS working president said the party was fully prepared for the municipal polls, with municipality-wise in-charges to be announced shortly. He said preparatory meetings have already been completed district-wise, campaign material is ready, and candidates will be finalised based on surveys and local feedback. He said the campaign would be led by local leaders with focus on local issues, along with the Congress betrayal of its promises and abolition of existing districts among others.
He felt that the municipal elections could be completed before Maha Sivaratri next month, followed by the GHMC elections. However, he suspected that the Congress government might not hold elections to Zilla Parishads and Mandal Parishads anytime soon.
Citing the party’s performance in the recent panchayat elections, where it won around 40 per cent of sarpanch seats, Rama Rao exuded confidence in repeating the success in the municipal polls. He said the results demonstrated the organisational strength of the BRS at the grassroots level.
He said through programmes like Basti Bata, the party was already explaining to people the achievements of the previous BRS government over ten years, compared to the Congress government, and the problems currently being faced by citizens.
On the proposed ‘Future City’, Rama Rao said a project with no real future was being pushed at the cost of the twin cities’ existence. He demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy answer the concerns of locals, particularly in Secunderabad, where public protests are underway. He wished that Revanth Reddy, who was going to attend a five-day programme at Harvard University, would return as a changed man and fulfill his electoral promises.
