MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao interacting with Saidamma, a sanitation worker in Hyderabad on Monday
Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao’s heartwarming interaction with a sanitation worker stole the show at the inaugural function of link roads here on Monday.
The Minister, who was about to get into his car after the inauguration of the Vasanth Nagar link road, saw the sanitation worker wearing a hat standing nearby. Walking over to her, he complimented her on the cap she was wearing, before adjusting it so that the GHMC logo on the hat came right on her forehead.
The Minister also enquired about the wellbeing of Saidamma, the worker who is attached to the Chandanagar circle. “Are you getting paid?” Rao asked, to which she replied, saying sanitation workers like her had got a salary hike twice “after he took over”. “It’s not twice Amma, we have given hike three times,” the Minister said, asking her to click a picture along with him. The frame was complete with Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy too joining in with Saidamma and her hat. Speaking to Telangana Today, Saidamma said she was overjoyed.
“We have been deployed on duty at so many inaugurations and other functions, but no Minister or elected representative stopped by us and enquired about our wellbeing. I am overwhelmed with joy,” she said. “I wanted to meet and thank the Minister as our salaries have been hiked. Fortunately, I met him today. My phone has been flooded with calls and people working along with me saying that I should have thanked on behalf of all of them for increasing our pay,” she added.
