Hyderabad: Former Kodangal MLA and BRS leader Patnam Narender Reddy, along with 24 farmers from Lagacherla village, who were arrested for the alleged attack on the Vikarabad Collector and other officials, were granted conditional bail by the Nampally Special Court on Wednesday.
However, one of the key accused, B Suresh, was denied bail by the court. Police in its report accused Suresh of orchestrating the attack on the District Collector during a public hearing on land acquisition in Lagacharla village, Vikarabad district, on November 11.
Narendra Reddy was granted bail after furnishing a personal bond of Rs.50,000 and the others to furnish two sureties of Rs.20,000 each. They are required to appear before the police every Wednesday for three months.
The case is related to the attack on Vikarabad district collector Prateek Jain and other government officials on November 11. The officials had gone to attend a public hearing in Lagcherla village regarding the disputed Pharma Village which the state government planned to construct on 1,300 acres of land, in and around the village.
The BRS party had been demanding the release of the farmers and even staged protests at the Assembly and Council in their support.
Suresh, who had been absconding for eight days after the attack, surrendered voluntarily at the police station earlier today. He was transferred to Sangareddy Central Jail after undergoing mandatory medical examinations at the Kodangal Government Hospital. Along with Suresh, two other individuals were also apprehended and sent to jail.
KTR, Harish Rao welcome bail
Responding to the development, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said he was elated over the release of Lagacherla farmers along with former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, who were arrested for protesting against the coercive actions of the Revanth Reddy government to acquire land for the Adani cement plant and pharma companies of the Chief Minister’s relatives at Lagacherla in Vikarabad district.
“Relief after 35 days of agony to Kodangal Farmers and former MLA. This is a victory of the Kodangal farmers who fought valiantly against the oppressive Congress government,” he posted on X.
Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao also welcomed the court’s decision to grant bail, calling it a farmers’ victory against the Revanth Reddy’s anarchy. He felt that people of Telangana scored a victory against Revanth Reddy who handcuffed farmers including those undergoing treatment for heart stroke.
