Hyderabad: If there’s one thing you should be scared of right now it is social gatherings.
With Covid cases on the rise, it’s ideal to stay away from crowded places. So, if you’re looking to unleash with just a couple of friends at a secluded place – why not visit some beautiful lakes in and around Hyderabad? Not only will you feel refreshed, but spending some time amidst nature can be the best way to beat work-from-home blues.
Here is a list of lakes you can plan to drive to this weekend with some coffee/tea in a flask, snacks and your BFFs. And of course, don’t forget your masks and sanitisers!
Shamirpet Lake:
The Shamirpet Lake is an ideal choice for a quick getaway with your friends or family. Although there are some restrictions right now, you can visit the lake to watch the sunrise and look at the migratory birds. You will find many breakfast spots on the way to the lake. If you’re planning to get home-cooked food, then it’s also a good place for a picnic. There are also resorts like the Leonia Resorts and Alankrita Resorts nearby the lake for you to explore. The artificial lake is about 24kms away from Secunderabad.
Ameenpur Lake:
Ameenpur Lake is a heaven for birdwatchers – photographers can spot flamingos, kingfishers, egrets and more. You can enjoy this artificial lake early in the mornings or evenings. This biodiversity heritage site is located in the Sangareddy District and on the edge of Hyderabad. You can also plan a stargazing night with friends here.
Laknavaram Lake:
The Laknavaram Lake is a splendid spot to feel refreshed. It is located 17 km from Mulugu, 80km from Warangal. and about 260 km from Hyderabad. The hanging bridge by the lake is a good spot to get some Instagram-worthy pictures. A total of about 13 tiny pieces of mini islands can be seen surrounded by lake water. Night camping in the tents, jungle safari, forest cycling, boating, kayaking, trekking, bullock cart ride and deer park are more attractions here.
Pakhal Lake:
The Pakhal Lake is an artificial lake situated in the Pakhal sanctuary about 50 km east of Warangal. It is well connected by road, tourists can get there via state-run buses or by private vehicles. Apart from a boat ride, you can also enjoy clicking some photographs of the beautiful flora and fauna there.
Osman Sagar Lake:
The Osman Sagar Lake, also called Gandipet, is an excellent picnic spot about 20 km on the outskirts of Hyderabad. There are snacks and drinks available at the local cafeteria. After a good monsoon, the reservoir is replenished which is a breathtaking sight. It is a great spot for bird photography as well. One can also visit the Chilkur Balaji Temple nearby.
Nagasamundram Lake:
The Nagasamundram Lake is popularly known as the Kotepally Reservoir in Ananthagiri Hills, Vikarabad. Known for its kayaking activities and great food spots, it is a must-visit. Deccan Trails near the place is a good option to camp with a bonfire and other activities.
Safilguda Lake:
Safilguda lake, also known as Nadimi Cheruvu (original name) and Mini Tank Bund, is a lake located in Old Neredmet, Secunderabad. There is a park adjacent to the lake called Safilguda Lake Park. The lake has a small island called Nadimi Bird Island, covered with thick trees, which attract a variety of wildlife, especially migratory birds. Katta Maisamma Temple is located on the shoreline of the lake.
Narsapur Lake:
Located 50 km from Hyderabad, this is a lovely weekend getaway for all those who love to watch sunrises and sunsets. Lots of greenery around to appreciate and get clicked. The lake is at the center of the Narsapur forest and you can feed the monkeys on the way if you wish to.
