Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Friday said Dharani portal, a one-stop destination for agriculture land transactions, could become a game changer since it had brought radical change in land administration system of the State.
At a meeting conducted at BRKR Bhavan here to mark the successful completion of one year of the launch of Dharani, the Chief Secretary released a booklet. He recalled Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s observation that Dharani was a major initiative after the formation of Telangana.
Expressing satisfaction over the strides taken by Dharani over the last one year, Somesh Kumar said that the web portal had witnessed 5.14 crore hits and over 10 lakh transactions were completed in one year.
Referring to the challenges and hurdles faced in the initial stages of the launch, he felt that in spite of certain vested interests trying hard to pull down the system, the ability to adapt itself to meet the ever-increasing requirements of various stakeholders had been the hallmark of Dharani.
Different transaction modules had also been added to redress various kinds of grievances, he added.
The Chief Secretary observed that there had been an exponential growth in land values in Telangana, and thanks to Dharani lands were safe. No changes were possible without biometric authentication. Dharani was possible because the government took up the land records updation programme to purify and update the land records.
The Chief Secretary complimented the officials and staff for doing tremendous work and noted that in a couple of months, pending grievances would come down and Dharani would prove to be a harbinger of transformation. Senior officers, who were involved with Dharani since its inception, shared their experiences in handling the portal.

The family of Nagamani from Khammam sold some portion of their land only to realise later that it is in a different survey number than intended. It remained unresolved for six years. With Dharani, the portion of land was swapped between the two survey numbers correctly in less than ten minutes.
Bugga Venkat of Nirmal promised to gift some land to his granddaughter at the time of her marriage. Despite visiting several govt offices, he could not register it in her name. “After learning about Dharani, I booked the slot through MeeSeva and completed the transaction in just 20 minutes,” he says.
S Latha from Jagitial purchased land in March, 2020 and visited the registration office twice but couldn’t get the property registered. After Dharani portal was introduced, she could complete the registration in just 20 minutes.
