Learn from neighbouring States and repair Medigadda: BRS MLC Sravan to Revanth Reddy
BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Wednesday charged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy with ignoring urgent repairs at the Medigadda barrage, even as Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh moved swiftly to restore their irrigation projects.
Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Wednesday accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of neglecting the repair of Medigadda barrage, while neighbouring States were restoring major irrigation projects on a war footing. He urged Revanth Reddy to focus on restoring the project rather than political attacks against the opposition.
Referring to Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks at a function in Karnataka, where he described Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as his elder brothers, Sravan said the Chief Minister should learn from their approach to rebuilding damaged infrastructure instead of indulging in petty politics over Kaleshwaram project.
He said Karnataka replaced all 33 crest gates of the Tungabhadra Dam after one gate was washed away, while the Andhra Pradesh government has taken up reconstruction of the Polavaram project’s damaged diaphragm wall. In contrast, he said the Telangana government has failed to repair the damaged pillars at Medigadda despite being in office for over two-and-a-half years.
Pointing out that only pillars 20, 21 and 22 of the Medigadda barrage were affected, Sravan questioned why the government did not take up repairs on a priority basis. “Your brothers are reconstructing washed-away dams, but you are playing politics over two pillars at Medigadda,” he remarked.
The BRS MLC said the Congress government was deliberately keeping the barrage non-functional to discredit the K Chandrashekhar Rao government, while farmers were suffering due to the non-utilisation of Godavari waters. He warned that continued neglect of Medigadda would invite a strong response from Telangana’s farming community.
