Lightning claims five lives in erstwhile Adilabad district
Yapala Ellamma (30), a dailywage earner and a widow, died on the spot after being struck by lightning at Nipani village in Bheempur mandal in Adilabad district on Tuesday evening
Adilabad: In one of the worst days of the recent history of erstwhile Adilabad district, lightning claimed five lives of farmers and farm labourers in different parts of the district in the past 24 hours.
In the first instance, Yapala Ellamma (30), a daily earner and widow, died on the spot after being struck by lightning at Nipani village in Bheempur mandal on Tuesday evening. Her mother Shobha and farmer Chitta Devika belonging to the same village sustained injuries in the mishap. They were shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where condition of Devika was stated to be critical.
In the second incident, Borkut Pathru (40), a farmer was killed by lightning at Vankulam village in Rebbena mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district when he was taking up some farm activity in his field on Wednesday. In the third instance, Vijay, another 35-year farmer died and his wife sustained injuries when lightning struck them when they were in their agriculture field at Vittalpur in Kuntala mandal in Nirmal district. Dailewar Madhav Rao, 60-year old died after being struck by lightning at Kollur village in Thanur mandal of this district on Wednesday. He was grazing his cattle at his agriculture field at the time of the incident.
In yet another incident, Karam Laxman (38), a farm hand employed by a farmer Boja Reddy and two bullocks died on the spot and four others had minor injuries after being struck by lightning at Kuchulapur village in Boath mandal of Adilabad district when he was engaged in tilling of Boja Reddy’s farm on Wednesday. He is survived by two daughters and a wife. Four others received minor injuries in the incident.
In the meantime, Wadgure Laxmi and Bhandari Sangeeta, laborers received minor injuries when they were engaged in some agriculture activity at Bharampur village in Talamadugu mandal of Adilabad district on Wednesday. It may be noted that seven farmers had lost life to thunderbolts occurred at different places in erstwhile Adilabad district on June 30, 2015.
