Hyderabad: With improving Covid-19 situation, the State Cabinet has decided to lift the ongoing lockdown completely commencing 6 am on Sunday. Further, schools and other educational institutions in the State will start functioning from July 1 and will allow physical attendance of students.

The Cabinet, which met here on Saturday, examined reports submitted by the Medical and Health Department officials stating that the number of Covid-19 cases and the positivity rate in the State has dropped significantly. It was observed that the spread of the virus was under complete control in the State and the Covid cases were declining in the neighbouring States as well. Based on the reports submitted by the officials, the Cabinet came to the conclusion that compared to other States, Corona came under control speedily in the Telangana. The lockdown was in force from May 12 to June 19.

The Cabinet directed the officials concerned to lift all restrictions imposed during the lockdown and allow all activities duly following the Covid-19 norms. The Education Department was instructed to reopen all educational institutions in the State from July 1 with full preparedness. Students will be allowed to attend the classes physically. However, the officials will soon issue clear instructions and guidelines on compulsory attendance of the students, online classes and other related issues.

On the occasion, the State Cabinet sought cooperation from the people for its decision, which was taken to avoid any loss of livelihoods and for benefit of the public. The Cabinet made it clear that lifting of lockdown should not lead to negligent behaviour and asked people to follow the government guidelines. The Cabinet urged the people to wear masks, maintain physical distance, use sanitisers and other self-regulatory methods to curtail the spread of the virus.
