Low participation in TG ICET 2024 reflects student’s declining interest in MBA, MCA programmes
According to Technical Education department, more than 50 per cent of total 71,647 candidates who qualified in the common entrance stayed away from the admissions this academic year
Hyderabad: Once hugely popular with students, the MBA and MCA programmes appear to be losing their sheen in the State.
A precursor to the shifting student preference in higher education emerges from the significant decline in the candidates’ participation in Telangana Integrated Common Entrance Test (TG ICET) 2024.
As per the information released by the Technical Education department, which conducted the web counselling, more than 50 per cent of total 71,647 candidates who qualified in the common entrance stayed away from the admissions this academic year.
Of the total qualified, 35,033 candidates got their certificates verified and 34,069 exercised web options for allotment of seats.
After the first phase allotments, a large number of seats have remained vacant in both MBA and MCA programmes.
Of the 27,951 MBA seats in 266 colleges in the State, 24,457 seats were allotted, leaving 3,494 vacant. Management wise, 21 university colleges saw 95 per cent seat allotment out of 1,615 seats.
Similarly, 87 per cent seats were allocated out of 26,154 seats in 243 private MBA colleges.
In the case of MCA admissions, 5,843 out of 6,797 seats in 89 colleges were allotted, with 954 left vacant. Only 1,130 candidates secured allotments under economically weaker sections quota.
Candidates who receive provisional seat allotment have to self-report online on the website https://tsicet.nic.in/ and make the payment on or before September 17 and failure will result their seats being cancelled.
Between September 25 and 28, the candidates have to handover a set of photocopies of certificates and original certificate to the college, else they stand the risk of their seats being automatically cancelled.
