Madhapur police bust illegal psychotropic drug racket

Madhapur police busted an illegal drug supply racket in Hyderabad, seizing over 6,500 Tramadol tablets from Prime Pharmacy in Ayyappa Society. Two persons were arrested, while the main supplier remains absconding.

Hyderabad: The Madhapur police on Wednesday busted an illegal network supplying the psychotropic drug Tramadol Hydrochloride by raiding a pharmacy in Ayyappa Society. The police seized 6,568 tablets being sold without valid prescriptions.

Acting on information, the police raided Prime Pharmacy at Sai Nagar, Ayyappa Society, and arrested Thorri Venkatesham (32), owner and pharmacist of Prime Pharmacy, and Barlakadi Srikanth (32), a delivery boy. During the raid, officers seized 821 strips (6,568 tablets) of Pyeevon Spas Plus, containing approximately 328.4 grams of Tramadol Hydrochloride.

The police said Venkatesham had allegedly procured the tablets from Rathod Prakash, a resident of Narayankhed who is currently absconding, and sold them without doctors’ prescriptions or maintaining mandatory records. The tablets were allegedly supplied both over the counter at the pharmacy and through the delivery boy, with payments collected in cash.

Police suspect that the accused supplied the psychotropic tablets to nearly 100 to 150 customers over the past several months.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
