Mahabubnagar: Demanding the Congress government to extend the promised input subsidy of Rs.15,000 under Rythu Bharosa, farmers and BRS cadre staged protests at different places in erstwhile Mahabubnagar district on Monday.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had announced that under Rythu Bharosa Rs.12,000 per acre would be extended from January 26. This was against the promise made to extend Rs.15,000 per acre as part of the Congress party’s Warangal Declaration.

At Peddagudem village, Wanaparthy, women farm labourers assembled in large numbers and raised slogans against the Congress government. They demanded the Congress government to fulfill the promises made to farmers and not deceive them.

In protest, the women and BRS party workers dumped copies of the Warangal Declaration in the bonfire set up at Peddagudem crossroads.

The women also reminded they were betrayed by the Congress party. After promising to pay monthly Rs.2500 assistance, the State government had failed to fulfill the promise, they said.

Similarly, at Shadnagar, the BRS workers staged a protest at the Tahsildar office in the constituency. The Congress had promised to ensure farmers’ welfare but was leaving them in the lurch by not fulfilling the promises made to them, they said.

Before the Parliament elections, the farmers were assured that all their crop loans would be waived without any terms and conditions before August 15. Many farmers were running from pillar to post to get their loans waived even today, said BRS leader Y Ravinder.

Likewise, with an eye on local bodies’ elections, the Congress government was assuring farmers financial assistance under Rythu Bharosa. However, the government cannot deceive the farmers this time. It has to extend Rs.15,000 per acre as promised during assembly elections and cannot wash off its hands by extending Rs.12,000 per acre under the scheme, he said, adding that protests would be intensified if the State government fails to fulfill its promise.
