Mahabubnagar: With just a month left for closure of current financial year, District Collector S Venkat Rao wanted the bank managements to achieve the targets set for extension of loans to farmers.

The Collector held a conference with bankers, MPDOs and Tahsildars on Friday to review the loans sanctioned to farmers during the current financial year.

During the meeting, officials informed that State Bank of India had extended Rs.167 crore and union Bank of India had extended Rs.101 crore. The Collector wanted the bank representatives to extend the balance loans as per the targets set for the 2021-22 financial year.

To this effect, he instructed the Agriculture Extension Officers to take the farmers to banks and ensure the loans were sanctioned immediately. The Collector said many farmers in Koilkonda, Devarkadra and Chinna Chintakunta were cultivating mulberry and wanted the bankers to extend loans to such farmers for taking up horticulture crops cultivation.

He also said many farmers in Hanwada, Balanagar, Rajapur and other mandals were cultivating vegetables and fruits on a large scale. “Banks should support the farmers and aid in promotion of horticulture crops” said Venkat Rao.

Meanwhile, the District Collector S Venkat Rao appealed to parents to get polio drops administered for children aged below five years on Sunday.

On Saturday, rallies and awareness programmes would be conducted to educate people on polio immunization.

As many as 676 polio centres have been set up across the district and 68 observers have been appointed to monitor the polio vaccination on the 68 routes identified in the district, he said.
