Hyderabad: Blaming the management of Mahesh Bank, City Police Commissioner C V Anand said there was negligence on part of the bank, whose main server was hacked and around Rs12.9 crore were siphoned off.
He added that a case will be booked against the bank.
Speaking to the media persons on Thursday, he said that a detailed investigation is being carried out into the fraud and the police have been able to obtain some clues and leads.
“The bank holds the accounts of the public worth several crores. The management should have safeguarded public money and seen to it that all necessary safety measures are in place. But it failed. There is no proper safety mechanism for the bank’s main server, which was compromised and hacked,” the Commissioner said.
“We have been able to freeze nearly Rs 3 crore which was transferred into various bank accounts until now. The details of those who opened bank accounts are being verified. We should be able to crack soon,” Anand said.
Previous investigations has revealed that the money siphoned from the bank was transferred into nearly 120 different bank accounts in various parts in the country.
Cybercriminals allegedly hacked the servers of the AP Mahesh Cooperative Urban Bank and transferred nearly Rs 12.9 crore to different accounts. They hacked into the servers and later logged into main accounts and transferred the amount.
