Karimnagar: The ‘Mahila Bandhu K Chandrashekhar Rao’ celebrations were held on grand scale across the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Sunday.
Based on the call given by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to celebrate three-day festivities to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, as ‘Mahila Bandhu K Chandrashekhar Rao’, TRS workers celebrated the event on a grand scale on the first day. MLAs, municipal chairpersons and other public representatives celebrated the event by cutting cakes, distributing sweets and conducting sports competitions.
Nearly 1,000 women formed a human chain in the shape of ‘Thank You KCR’ at Madhuranagar chowk, Gangadhara mandal headquarters. On the occasion, Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishakar distributed Rs 1.74 crore worth Kalyanalaxmi cheques to 174 beneficiaries.
In Kondapur of Chigurumamidi mandal, women led by sarpanch Peddapalli Bhavani tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s statue.
Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao felicitated women being provided services in different fields at his camp office.
Jagitial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar and municipal chairperson Boga Sravani felicitated sanitation workers, anganwadi teachers, ASHA workers and others in a programme held in Jagitial.
Peddapalli municipal chairperson Dr Mamatha Reddy tied rakhi to the Chief Minister’s portrait. On the occasion, she felicitated women providing services in various fields.
