Sangareddy: Dr Shankar Babu, an expert on diabetics, has underlined the importance of making millets part of people’s everyday diet as a preventive measure to prevent diabetes.

Along with other experts, the doctor participated in a walk organised by the Deccan Development Society (DDS) in association with Jana Vignana Vedika to mark World Diabetic Day in Zaheerabad town on Sunday.

Over 200 persons have participated in the walk organised from Baga Reddy Stadium to Cafe Green Ethnic where the DDS serves several millet-made food recipes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shankar Babu observed that many studies proved time and again that millets such as pearl millet, finger millet, sorghum and others were the best food to prevent diabetics disease. Saying that over 8 crore Indians were suffering from diabetics, he said that lack of regular physical excise is one of the prime reasons for getting diabetes in India.

Zaheerabad DSP G Shankar Raju said that Yoga would also help people stay away from Diabetes apart from what the expert doctor suggested.

Later, the participants in the walk were served millet-made breakfasts with an objective to promote the consumption of millets in their daily diet.
The doctors have also conducted free blood sugar tests for all the walkers.
