Hyderabad: With the omicron variant of the coronavirus causing huge surges in cases, many of us are anxiously reconsidering our holiday plans. The vacation rituals have been interrupted. To cancel or not to cancel. That is the question that travelers are grappling with.
The spread is making many feel more cautious about taking off to a far-flung locale and then there is that concern of getting stranded on a trip.
And even if you decide not to plan a long trip right now, how about quick getaways at drivable distances, road trips, private vehicles, long drives, and drive-to destinations? After all, we will be in our own bubbled space within the confines of our cars.
The wide-open outdoor areas, nearly-empty and traffic-free roads, secluded green stretches, and small towns are the best bet. Luxury is not what most of you must consider before choosing a place right now, but safety and privacy.
Kondamadugu hills are a hub for rock climbers and trekkers. The place is around 40 km from Secunderabad and can be one of the best weekend getaways from the city. The rocky trails here are good for amateur trekkers as well.
Located within the city limits is Moula Ali Hill. With 500 steps, the place is best for beginners who want to do some serious trekking in the future. The sunrises and sunsets are magical here.
The other place located within the city limits is Khajaguda Hills. It is just 3 km away from Hitec City. Watching a sunrise here isn’t something you should miss. Apart from trekking, you can try rappelling and rock climbing too.
Rachakonda Fort, around 60 km from Hyderabad, is another best bet for a getaway. The beauty of the boulders, the lush green paddy fields, and the hills in the backdrop is breathtaking and refreshing. As you reach the topmost point of the fort, the unending scenery will hold you spellbound. You get a panoramic view of the lush greens of the Rachakonda reserve forest.
Why not explore some unexplored sites in Bhongir, Medak, and Siddipet along with long-time favourites – Shamirpet Lake and the Gandipet reservoir. Kondapochamma Sagar Reservoir in Markook Mandal of Siddipet district is about 45 km from the city. The Hyderabad-Siddipet highway is a smooth ride in itself, with greenery along the median.
Ameenpur Lake located 4 km from BHEL Cross Road, usually frequented by bird watchers and photographers, can be your perfect weekend spot. Picnic here with family and relish the serenity!
There are a slew of sanctuaries and breathtaking waterfalls too. You can reach the less travelled trails like Bogatha Waterfall in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Jadi Malkapur waterfall located on the Telangana-Karnataka border, or Kuntala Waterfall in Adilabad district to find solace in Mother Nature’s lap.
Nevertheless, you shouldn’t overlook safety measures including physical distancing. We suggest you hit roads with not more than 3 to 4 people and vaccinated buddies. Take your own groceries from home and have lunch in the open fields. Indeed, the old trend is gaining traction!
