Hyderabad: Redevelopment work at Malkajgiri Railway Station, part of the Railway Ministry’s ‘Naya Bharat Naya Station’ initiative under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), is progressing rapidly and nearing completion.
The project is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 27.61 crore. A new 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) is almost complete, offering safer and more convenient access between platforms.
Passenger amenities such as the RPF office, tea stall, waiting hall, VIP lounge, and restrooms on Platforms 1 and 2 are in the final stages of construction. Elevation work and entrance arches are also underway. Shahabad stone flooring and staircase installations will be completed soon.
Noor Ahmed Ali, President of the Long Trains and MMTS Travellers Association, said that once the upgrades are finished, trains like the Rayalaseema Express and Devagiri Express may be given halts at Malkajgiri Station.
“This redevelopment will benefit thousands of daily commuters and strengthen Hyderabad’s suburban rail network. More MMTS services are also needed to meet rising demand,” he added.
Commuters are hopeful that the Hyderabad Division will prioritise Malkajgiri Station, which is the second major junction in the northern section of South Central Railway (SCR) after Kacheguda. They expect further improvements in connectivity and passenger facilities.
