Hyderabad: Cancer surgeons from Malla Reddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital (MRNH) on Friday announced successful treatment of a 53-year-old patient, who was suffering from multiple health complications including cancer, bile duct abnormality and liver cirrhosis.
The male patient, a known diabetic was admitted with a rare and complex combination of conditions such as a large gallbladder tumour, multiple tumour emboli inside the Common Bile Duct (CBD), a type IV-A choledochal cyst (bile duct abnormality) and associated liver cirrhosis
The presence of bile duct tumour emboli without any bile obstruction or jaundice made this case exceptionally rare and medically significant, the doctors said.
A team of surgeons led by Dr. M. Manisegaran, Director – Minimal Access, HPB & GI Onco Surgeries conducted cholecystectomy, complete excision of the bile duct, careful removal of all tumour emboli and reconstruction following strict cancer surgery standards.
Operating on a cirrhotic liver alongside a complicated bile duct structure significantly increased the risk, the hospital said.
Hospital Chairman Dr Bhadra Reddy and Vice-Chairman Dr Preeti Reddy congratulated the surgical team for the successful procedure.
