Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Detective department sleuths on Tuesday arrested Shaik Mahmood (38), proprietor of Al Madina Marriage Bureau, for allegedly cheating public to the tune of Rs. 2.28 crore.
Avinash Mohanty, Joint Commissioner of Police, Detective Department, said Mahmood along with Shakeera Begum, Maryam Fathima, Abdul Asif and Shaik Reshma Jani had cheated around 60 persons on pretext of huge profits.
“Mahmood had set up 15 branches of Al Madina Marriage Bureau and lured people with high interest rate on term deposits. He along with his associates collected Rs. 2.28 crore from the people and duped them,” he said.
On a complaint the police had last year registered a case under Section 406, 420 r/w 34 of IPC and Section 3 and 5 of TPDEF Act against the suspects. Mahmood who was absconding since then, was arrested by the White Collar Offences (WCO) A Division Team.
