Adilabad: Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly killing a woman and injuring her son after ramming his car into their bullock cart while driving under the influence of alcohol in Bazarhathnoor mandal headquarters on Sunday evening.
Boath Inspector Guru Swamy said Tharadapur Pradeep Kumar of Bazarhathnoor mandal headquarters was arrested for causing the death of Chevula Rathnamala (48).
Driving in an inebriated state, Pradeep Kumar reportedly hit the bullock cart in which Rathnamala and her son were travelling, killing her on the spot. Her son, Laxman, sustained minor injuries and was shifted to a hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
On Monday, Rathnamala’s family members staged a dharna carrying her body and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. They refused to perform the final rites until police acted. The protest was withdrawn after police assured them of justice.
