Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police nabbed a person on charges of diverting the attention of elderly customers and stealing their debit cards at ATM centres at Bhongir Town here on Saturday. Police recovered Rs 1.4 lakh, 15 ATM cards and other material.

The arrested person was T Raju alias Rajender (40), a resident of Gangadhara in Karimnagar. He was involved in 10 cases so far at Siddipet, Karimnagar, Bhongir, Jagityal and Gajwel. Police said Rajender targeted elderly customers who come to ATM centres to withdraw cash and on the pretext of helping them, collected the PIN and by diverting their attention exchanged the card with a duplicate one.

“Using the cards, he then siphoned money from their bank accounts. He is involved in several cases. We seized 15 ATM cards from him,” said K Narayana Reddy, DCP Yadadri-Bhongir.
Based on a complaint, the Bhongir police booked a case and with the help of the footage from surveillance cameras identified Rajender and nabbed him.
