Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A court in Asifabad on Tuesday sentenced a man to seven years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for growing ganja four years ago.
District Sessions Court judge MV Ramesh pronounced the verdict awarding the term and fine against Mathavan Bagavandas from Madhura Thanda in Sirpur (U) mandal after finding him guilty for cultivating the crop as an inter crop in his cotton farm.
It cross-questioned eye witnesses and examined evidence produced before it by the defense counsel.
The then Sirpur (U) Sub-Inspector Gangaram registered a case against Bagavandas for growing the crop. This was after police raided his farm and found the crop, following a tip-off on October 24, 2021.
