Jangaon: Raghunathpalli police in the district have arrested a man who allegedly conspired with his second wife to kill his two minor sons by hiring a contract killer.
According to the police the accused Banoth Srinivas of Pottigubbadi thanda in Raghunathpalli mandal married Anitha of Ankushapur village in Tarigoppula mandal in 2016. They had two sons, one six-year-old and another nine-year-old.
A year ago, Srinivas married another woman, Mudavath Mamatha of Dubba thanda. Following this, Anita approached the police for assistance. Acting on their advice, a panchayat was convened with the local elders of the thanda.
The elders passed a resolution mandating that twenty guntas of agricultural land should be registered in the names of the two children. Since then, Anitha has been taking care of her children by cultivating the land and working as a daily wage labourer at Pottigubbadi thanda.
A few months later, Srinivas began harassing Anitha, demanding to return his land. This prompted her to approach the police again. Determined to reclaim the land by any means, Srinivas allegedly hatched a plan along with his second wife to eliminate the two children.
He plotted to feed biscuits laced with poison to his two school-going sons and hired a person to carry out the task. However, the hired individual, moved by conscience, informed Anita and exposed Srinivas’s conspiracy.
SI Naresh Yadav told the media on Thursday that based on the complaint Anitha lodged, a case was registered. Both Srinivas and his second wife were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
