Mancherial: Former MLA Nadipelli Diwakar Rao demanded municipal officials and police to take stringent action against those who removed selfie point — ‘Manchi Mancherial’ — at the Ambedkar Chowrasta. Diwakar Rao, along with ex-municipal chairperson, P Rajaiah, inspected the spot here on Tuesday.

Rao expressed shock over the disappearance of the signage. He opined that the municipal commissioner should take responsibility for the removal of the sculpture by someone who did not like the sculpture.

He found fault with the commissioner for lack of information over the incident. He recalled that the point was created reflecting the cultural and historical background of the town.

The former MLA wanted the officials to take stern action against the perpetrators at the earliest. He asked the police to scan the CCTV footage to detect the offenders and immediately arrest the culprits. He said that everyone would like to see the point at the junction where statues of Dr BR Ambedkar and Lord Hanuman were already located.

He stated that the point was the destination of selfies for not only locals, but also people from several parts of the district. He recounted that the sculpture was installed to indicate the rich history of the town. He reasoned that the sculpture was created as Lord Rama had once stayed in the old Mancherial area.
