Siddipet: Maoist area commander of Parthapur in Chhattisgarh, Rupi alias Rangaboyina Bhagya, was laid to rest at her native village Dharmaram in Mirudoddi mandal on Wednesday evening amid wailing family members and villagers.
Since she was killed in an encounter on Monday by security forces under Chotte Baitiya police station limits in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, the family members had waited for more than 48 hours to receive the body.
The body was sent to Dharmaram on Monday morning by police forces. Rupi’s mother Yellavva and other family members turned emotional upon seeing her body. The entire village gathered at the residence and raised slogans of Johar Bhagya and Amar Rahe Bhagya.
Several leaders and social activists visited the village and paid their last respects to her. They comforted Rupi’s mother Yellavva. The family members also placed banners in the village, hailing her contribution to the Maoist movement.
Rupi, who left the village more than two decades ago, never returned to Dharmaram in her life. She married her fellow Maoist Vijay Reddy, who also died in another encounter in Chhattisgarh in 2025.
