Peddapalli: Final rites of slain Maoist leader, Sande Gangaiah alias Ashok, who was killed in an encounter that took place in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, were held in his native Gumpula of Odela mandal on Saturday.
He was one among the six naxalities who were killed in an encounter with Grey Hounds near Thigametta, Koyyuru mandal of Vishakapatnam district.
Family members of Gangaiah went to Vishakapatnam to collect the body and brought it to Gumpula at around 9 am on Saturday.
Relatives and family members broke down heavily after seeing his body. People from surrounding villagers also thronged Gumpula to have a glimpse of slain naxalite leader. Later in the afternoon, final rites to the body of Gangaiah were performed in the village. Members of Amaraveerula Bandumitrula Committee and people’s organizations, who also participated in the funeral procession, raised slogans in favor of Gangiah.
Sande Mahender, brother of slain leader, informed that no bullet wound was found on the body of Gangaiah. Though they repeatedly asked the local police about the bullet wound, cops failed to show bullet wounds. Moreover, police failed to tell how many bullets hit Gangiah.
Second son to Amruthamma and Ramaswamy, Gangaiah joined the extremist party in the year 1999 and worked in different cadres. Gangaiah is the younger brother of slain Maoist central committee member Sande Rajamouli alias Prasad. Rajamaouli was killed in Anathapur encounter in 2007. Their cousin and Maoist party leader, Sande Rajaiah, a native of Gudem of Odela mndal, was also killed in an encounter near Odela hillocks in 1996.
Gangiah studied up to Class VII in Godavarikhani area where his father worked in Singareni coal mines. After shifting to Gudem, he practiced agriculture for some time. Later, he joined the extremist movement. He has two younger brothers Prabhakar and Mahender. While Prabhakar is working in Singareni coal mines, Mahender is staying in Gudem village.
