Mahabubabad: A widower has allegedly attempted to kill a married woman by setting her ablaze, and he himself suffered burn injuries in Mahabubabad town.
According to the police, a woman from Gudur mandal, Padma, was separated from her husband due to family disputes. She was looking after her two children by running a vegetable store locally.
The accused, Anjaiah, whose wife died two years ago, developed a close relationship with the woman. He started harassing her to marry him. She told him that she was already married and had a husband and children and moved to Hyderabad to avoid his harassment.
Recently, the woman had come to her mother’s house in Mahabubabad. On learning that Padma was in the town, Anjaiah went to her mother’s home, doused her with petrol, and set her on fire. In this process, Anjaiah also caught fire.
As both were seriously injured, their family members first took them to the District Government Hospital and then to MGM Hospital in Warangal. A case has been registered against Anjaiah based on the complaint of the woman’s mother, CI Mahender Reddy said on Tuesday.
