Mancherial: Mancherial town Inspector Bhukya Narayana Naik successfully cracked mysteries behind many tough cases and endured challenges, as part of the profession. But, he was unable to cope with uncertainty over the return of his son Akhil Naik, who was stranded in Ukraine invaded by Russia. However, he was elated to see Akhil safely back home on Saturday evening.
“It was a unique situation for me. I did not attend duties for four days, depressed over my son’s return and condition in the war-torn country. Ukraine is located thousands of miles away and is undergoing a crisis. I remained helpless thinking about uncertainty over the arrival of Akhil,” Narayana told ‘Telangana Today.’
Akhil, who enrolled to pursue MBBS at Vinnytsia National Pirogov Memorial Medical University in December last, was stuck in Ukraine following the war. He managed to arrive at home bringing cheer to his parents late on Saturday evening. He expressed gratitude to the Union government and State for coming to the rescue of the students.
He narrated the horrific experience and bitter accounts in coming back to India which took over a week. “I was starved for two days and was forced to drink water to satiate hunger. I had to trek long distances to reach the borders of the country. I spent the freezing cold on the borders. I lost communication with my parents as I lost my mobile phone,” he recounted.
The student said that he along with his classmates took shelter in a bunker and they shared food with others who were starving. We were anxious and were living under the grip of fear. We were displaying Indian flags to the locals and could reach Rumania on March 3. We landed in Delhi and subsequently in Hyderabad on March 4.
Navya, the mother of Akhil, termed that waiting for her son’s return was an inexpressible pain. She stated that she continued to bewail over his arrival and tried to stay in connection with him over the phone. She said she was devastated when his mobile phone remained for three days. She added that she could track his condition through his classmates.
Parents worried over return of student who still stuck in Ukraine
Meanwhile, parents of Ande Ravali from Kasipet mandal are anxious about their daughter who is still stuck in Ukraine. Narsaiah and Vani told mediapersons that Ravali was undergoing trauma and facing untold hardships due to lack of basic commodities at a bunker where she along with some of her classmates were taking shelter.
Narsaiah said Ravali was struggling to return to India. She and her classmates were staying in a bunker in Sumy, Ukraine. “She told us that they were leading a pitiable life due to lack of water supply and electricity at the bunker after Russian troops bombed a power grid. It takes another day or two for her to cross the borders of the country,” they disclosed.
The parents requested the union government to take steps to repatriate their daughter at the earliest. They stated that they were worried a lot about her safety and return to India, considering the ongoing war in Ukraine. Ravali was studying MBBS fourth year at Sumy State University. Her father is a cable TV operator, while mother is a homemaker.
