Hyderabad: As part of the continued efforts to encourage defence startups, bridge the technological gap and promote innovation in the field of defence manufacturing, Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCME), Secunderabad organized a seminar on ‘Encouraging Defence Startups Towards Development of Military Industrial Complex (MIC) in Telangana State’ in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) here on Tuesday.
The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for all stakeholders to be aware of the challenges faced by defence start-ups, perspectives of all the stakeholders involved, understand the strengths and limitations of each other and chart a way ahead to deal with the issues so as to sow seeds for future collaborative projects.
The seminar was presided over by Lieutenant General Raj Shukla, General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C), Army Training Command and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery, who delivered the keynote address.
General Raj Shukla complimented the initiative of organizing a seminar on such a relevant topic which is in sync with the national vision of an ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’. Lieutenant General TSA Narayanan, AVSM, Commandant, MCEME and Colonel Commandant, Corps of EME welcomed all participants to the seminar and said that the seminar is an attempt to bring all the stakeholders involved in development of a military industrial complex under one umbrella.
After the introductory address by Dr Nirmalya Bagchi, Director General of ASCI, Mr Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industry and Commerce and IT Department of Telangana gave a brief overview of the contours of the State Government policies for Start-Ups in Telangana State. The seminar was attended by a wide cross-section of Defence Startups, industry representatives and T-Hub officials from Hyderabad, Indian Army officers from various training institutes and units and the Academia. It provided a platform wherein young entrepreneurs got an opportunity to interact with State officials, Army and subject matter experts to explore avenues in defence manufacturing sectors and achieving self-reliance in defence technologies.
The seminar featured four sessions including a product display by various startups in the defence field. The sessions highlighted opportunities for startups in defence, opportunities arising out of establishment of Military Industrial Complex (MIC) for defence start-ups, discussions on expectations of the industry and defence start-ups from the army and the Government for developing a military industrial complex and addressing the issues of technology transfer and R & D Projects, wherein officials from the Defence Research and Development Organization and Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) presented their views on encouraging startups in the defence sector.
