Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, the traders Md Ishaq, Md Miraj, Qadir, Khaja and Munwar stated that around 150 families have been dependent on the market for the past seven decades.
But the municipal officials without serving any notice have started demolishing the shops during early hours at 4.30 am. There were sheep, goats and chickens in the slaughterhouse and two creatures died as the shops were demolished all of a sudden, they alleged.
The traders noted that in the past they had asked the authorities to show them an alternate site to run meat shops cum slaughterhouse, but they ignored it. The officials have acted illegally as a court had issued orders in the past staying the demolition of the meat market, they complained.
