Hyderabad: Suicide prevention and mental health helpline (7893078930) managed by 1life has indicated a growing number of SOS calls from people in Hyderabad and districts needing emergency mental health care support for various reasons.
Between this January and December, the volunteers of 1life have attended to a total of 38,437 distress calls from people of all walks of life and in the process extended 1,838 hours of support through therapy.
All through the year, 1Life witnessed a sustained and significant increase in calls from people experiencing distress related to finances, relationships, education, work pressures, identity, and social stigma.
The steady rise in both call volumes and call duration reflects not only heightened awareness of mental health support services but also the deepening complexity of emotional struggles being shared. These trends highlight the critical role of compassionate listening, timely intervention, and strengthened mental health support systems, T Sreekar Reddy, Director, 1Life, said.
What we are witnessing is not just an increase in numbers, but an increase in the depth of distress. Many callers need time, patience, and reassurance that their feelings are valid and that support exists beyond that moment of crisis, Rebecca Maria, Counselling Psychologist, 1Life, in a press release said.
