Hyderabad: The fourth datacentre region of US tech giant Microsoft, which already has three such datacentre regions in India, will also be its largest.
To be set up over a period of 15 years, the datacentre region’s first phase will be completed in 24 months, according to Microsoft India president Anant Maheshwari.
The DC will offer the entire Microsoft portfolio across cloud, data solutions, artificial intelligence (AI), productivity tools, and customer relationship management (CRM) with advanced data security for enterprises, start-ups, developers, education, and government institutions.
The tech giant has over 18,000 employees in India while the Hyderabad Indian Development Centre (IDC) has the largest employee base and is the largest campus outside of its headquarters in the US. The IDC has three campuses spread across an area of 2 million sqft and the fourth is set to come up on 1.1 million sqft area. The centre is spread across 54.08 acres of land in the city.
Union Minister of State for IT and Electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that with digitisation and cloud technologies becoming the need of the hour, the union government had decided to provide impetus to companies working in this space.
There was a recent consultation on a new national policy on datacentre and also on cloud policy, with the government hopeful of announcing the policy in the near future, he said, adding that over the next two years, there would be a sharp acceleration of digitisation.
“This will lead to more and more data creation on the cloud and this will lead to the need for more data centers. We are going to be the largest connected nation in the world,” he said.
Minister of IT and Industries Department KT Rama Rao said, “Microsoft and Telangana go a long way back with Hyderabad hosting one of the largest Microsoft offices in the world and I am happy to see the relationship grow.”
