Mild tension during vote counting in Karimnagar’s Polampalli village
Mild tension gripped Polampalli village in Thimmapur mandal during the counting of votes for the sarpanch election. Congress candidates Gunti Lavanya and Budige Gnaneshwari contested, with Lavanya winning by a margin of three votes. A recount requested by Gnaneshwari added two more votes to Lavanya’s tally, prompting officials to withhold the results citing discrepancies.

Karimnagar: Mild tension prevailed in Polampalli village of Thimmapur mandal during the counting of votes on Sunday after supporters of sarpanch aspirants staged a protest over the stalling of results.
Congress activists Gunti Lavanya and Budige Gnaneshwari contested the sarpanch post. Lavanya won the seat with a narrow margin of three votes over Gnaneshwari.
Following a request from Gnaneshwari, polling officials took up a recount of the votes. In the recount, Lavanya secured two additional votes.
Suspecting discrepancies due to variations in the vote count, officials decided to put the results on hold.
Angered by the decision, Lavanya’s supporters staged a dharna at the counting centre. Police, who were alerted, intervened and pacified the agitating supporters with mild force.
Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam visited the spot and monitored the situation.
