Khammam school bus plunges into canal, 20 students injured
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed grief over the Vivekananda Vidyalayam bus accident in Khammam district and criticised the school management for allowing overcrowding in the vehicle. He directed officials to take strict action against those responsible and ordered regular inspections to prevent such incidents.

Khammam: In yet another accident in erstwhile Khammam district involving students a private school bus fell into an irrigation canal in Vemsoor mandal of Khammam on Friday.
The bus belonging to Sri Vivekananda Vidyalayam being run at Moddulugudem village in the mandal landed upside down after it fell into the canal. It was said there were around 60 students in the bus and around 20 students sustained injuries.
The incident occurred between Ganeshpadu and Sobbaigudem villages when the bus was taking students to drop them at their homes after school hours in the evening. It was alleged that the bus driver was under the influence of alcohol, which led to the accident.
The locals rushed to rescue the students before the police arrived at the scene and shifted the injured students to a hospital. The local police booked a case and are investigating.

He spoke to the district Collector Anudeep Durishetty over the phone and inquired about the incident and the reasons behind it. The minister expressed anger at the school management for allowing students to travel in the bus beyond its capacity.
Prabhakar ordered officials to take action against the school management responsible for the accident. He wanted quality medical treatment to be given to the injured students. The minister directed transport department officials to regularly conduct inspections to prevent such incidents from happening in the future, according to an official release.
However, the minister has not responded to the incident in which many engineering students were injured as a bus belonging to KLR Engineering College of Paloncha in Kothagudem district carrying over 50 students fell into a roadside ditch on Friday morning.
