Minor girl dies after suicide attempt in Jagtial

A 17-year-old girl from Dharmapuri mandal died while undergoing treatment after attempting suicide in December. Police said she allegedly took the extreme step following betrayal by her lover. A case has been registered based on a complaint by her mother.

Jagtial: A 17-year-old girl from Dharmapuri mandal died while undergoing treatment after attempting suicide, allegedly following betrayal by her lover. The girl had attempted suicide on December 8 last year and breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Tuesday night.

According to police, the girl, a resident of Dharmapuri, was studying Intermediate in a junior college in Jagtial town. Kola Manoj from Jagtial allegedly pursued the girl in the name of love. Promising to marry her, Manoj allegedly exploited her sexually and later refused to marry her. Upset over the development, the girl attempted suicide by consuming pesticide on December 8 when other family members had gone out. Family members first shifted her to a hospital in Jagtial. She was later referred to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad, where she died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday night.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, Dharmapuri police registered a case and began an investigation.
