Khammam: The Central government has been implementing anti-workers’ policies, Telangana Rashtra Vidyut Karmika Sangham (TRVKS) district honorary president Gundala Krishna said on Tuesday.

The BJP government was planning to privatise public sector organisations and the sangham members have to be prepared to stage a struggle against the Centre, he said speaking at the district general body meeting of the sangham at TRS headquarters here on Tuesday.

The Modi government planned to introduce the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in Parliament in the ongoing monsoon session and the Bill was anti-people. It would lead to an increase in electricity bills and would be disastrous for the people, Krishna noted.

The Centre with the Amendment wants to de-license power distribution and thus facilitate private companies, which would be profit-focused, to enter into power distribution. The move would seriously impact the power distribution companies (discoms), he explained.

Krishna said that the sangham affiliated to the TRS party should not sit quietly and be ready for any level of struggle for the welfare of the workers. The Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has also opposed the Amendment Bill as it was against the people’s interests.

He recalled that before the formation of Telangana several parties commented that power companies would disappear if Telangana was formed and demanded to know what they were doing to prevent privatisation of the electricity sector.

The sangham state general secretary Koduri Prakash has called for serious protests against the Centre’s move and all the union members have to make efforts in that direction. Krishna welcomed many workers who joined the union.

State leaders BVS Murthy, P Lingachari, district executive president Mudika Srinivas, district secretary U Srinivas, division secretary G Ramesh, leaders Usman Baig, Kandagatla Nageswara Rao and R Koteshwara Rao were present on the occasion.
