Hyderabad: During the next year, the State police expect more underground CPI (Maoist), including those from Telangana, will surrender before the government.
Telangana DGP, B Shivadhar Reddy, said that 509 underground CPI (Maoist), including nine central committee members, 11 State committee members, three divisional committee members, 17 DVCMs and 57 PPCMs, surrendered before the Telangana police. Out of the total 509 surrendered cadres, 483 cadres are from Chhattisgarh, 24 from Telangana and one each from Maharashtra and AP.
“Fifty-three members from Telangana are still working in CPI (Maoists). Through different channels, including through their relatives, acquaintances and friends, we are suggesting to them to surrender. It might take some time,” said Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy.
To a question that the Union government had set a March 2026 deadline for ending the CPI (Maoist) in the country, Telangana DGP said that they have to follow the directives issued by the government.
The DGP said that the Maoist movement has lost ground in the country. “There is no scope for the resurgence. Neither is there any support for them on ground nor is there any recruitment happening,” he added.
The Telangana government has a ‘surrender policy’ for the CPI (Maoist). On surrender, they get a cash benefit and other means to live a decent livelihood. The Maoists who carry a reward are handed over the full amount on surrender.
