Adilabad: A mother and her newborn died while undergoing treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS Adilabad, on Thursday.

Family members said Muthi Gangasheela, aged 34, from Pataguda in Utnoor mandal, was admitted to RIMS Adilabad after she went into labour on December 9. She died due to profuse bleeding immediately after delivering a baby boy, and the infant died moments later after developing health complications.

The grieving family alleged that negligence by the doctors led to the deaths of both the woman and the child. They lodged a complaint with the police, who registered a case against the doctors concerned. RIMS Adilabad Director Dr Jaisingh Rathod said an inquiry had been initiated to probe the incident and action would be taken against those responsible.
