Movie Review: “Badmashulu” a simple story of friendship and fun
Badmashulu is a slow, slice-of-life Telugu comedy following village tailor Tirupati and barber Mutyalu. Their carefree pranks, gentle humour and honest friendship anchor a film that skips big drama for small, heartfelt moments, ultimately favouring peace over confrontation

Hyderabad: Badmashulu is set in a small village and follows the lives of Tirupati, a tailor, and Mutyalu, a barber. These two middle-aged men are carefree and always up to some mischief. When their actions land them in police custody, they treat the station like their own playground. What unfolds is not a serious plot, but a string of light-hearted moments that talk about friendship, daily life, and small rebellions.
Mahesh Chintala as Tirupati brings a lot of energy to the screen. His comic timing and body language keep the character lively throughout. He carries the film with ease and adds charm even when the story starts to repeat. Vidya Sagar Karampuri plays Mutyalu in a calmer way. His performance is simple, and though he doesn’t stand out as much, the bond between the two actors grows on the audience.
The film does not aim for big laughs. The humour is soft and natural. Some scenes are amusing, but many moments feel like they are going in circles. The film shows how these two men enjoy small joys, but after a point, their pranks begin to feel the same.
Visually, the film keeps things real. Vineeth Pabbathi’s camera work is simple and uses natural light to show the village as it is. There are no dramatic effects. Teja Kunuru’s music adds a fun and folk-like feel to the scenes and suits the tone well.
What works best for Badmashulu is its honesty. It does not try to teach a big lesson or end with a heavy message. The film simply follows two ordinary men as they go about their odd little world. Even in the end, the film chooses peace over drama, not because anyone wins or loses, but because everyone is tired and just wants to move on.
Badmashulu is not fast-paced or action-packed. But it is a quiet, kind film that takes its time. If you are patient and enjoy small stories about simple people, this one may leave you with a soft smile.
