Mukhra (K) of Ichoda mandal was among the top four villages in
the country that had excelled on various fronts.
Adilabad: Mukhra (K), a model village in Echoda mandal of Adilabad district, grabbed the attention of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who mentioned the success story of the village while speaking in the State Assembly on Friday.
Chandrasekhar Rao, while recollecting the success of many initiatives implemented by the government, said that Mukhra (K) was among the four top villages in the country that had excelled on various fronts and and bagged national awards. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NITI Aayog and many others lauded schemes of the government. Mukhra (K) Sarpanch Gadge Meenkashi has received the awards from the Union government,” Rao remarked.
Centre full of praise
On August 29, the Union Ministry of Panchayat Raj complimented Mukhra (K) for making sustained efforts to improve green cover. In its official Twitter handle, the ministry especially shared a video of Palle Prakriti Vanam. “Plantation for people, productivity, profitability and prosperity,” the ministry remarked while sharing the video clip on the micro-blogging site.
The village, with a population of 750, was declared an open defecation-free village. Two dust bins were given to every family as part of sanitation measures and consumption of liquor is voluntarily prohibited. The dwellers resolved to send their children only to government-run schools. Local public representatives ensured 3-acre cultivatable land to all Dalit families of the village.
The residents of the small habitation planted 30,000 saplings in open spaces, Palle Prakriti Vanam and on the premises of every house in the villages. They had planted 3,500 saplings to mark the birthday of Information Technology Minister K Taraka Rama Rao and 26,500 saplings on either side of a road and other places, as part of Green India Challenge conceived by Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar.
