Multiple drugs with misleading labels seized by TSDCA

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (TSDCA) have seized multiple drugs that were circulating the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they can treat rheumatism, fevers, diabetes, diseases and disorders of eyes and kidney stones.
Such misleading claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders, DG, TSDCA, V B Kamalasan Reddy in a press release on Wednesday said.
The seized drugs include Volirun oil (Ayurvedic medicine), manufactured by Ruhani Herbals, Mohali, Punjab with a misleading claim of treating Rheumatism, from medical shops in Vikarabad.
Tulasi Leaf Choornam (Ayurvedic medicine), manufactured by Maddi Pharmaceuticals, Sainikpuri, Secunderabad, with a misleading claim of treating fevers, from Bakaam, Gandhi Nagar, Hyderabad.
Madhurikhta Powder (Ayurvedic Medicine), manufactured by Samraksha Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Prasanthi Nagar, Kukatpally, with a misleading claim to treat diabetes, from Ameenpur village, Sangareddy district.
Ed Phenicol Eye (Allopathic medicine) Capsules 200 mg, manufactured by Eamon Drugs, Sanwer Road, Indore, with misleading claim to treatment of eye infections of eye, from Annaram village, Gummadidala mandal, Sangareddy district.
Urisi Kit (Ayurvedic medicine), manufactured by Ruhani Herbals Mohali, claiming to treat Kidney stones, from Malkajgiri.
In a separate raid, the DCA officials also detected and seized stocks of Feroze-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid and Zinc Tablets) that were circulating in the market and were being sold under the guise of food products or nutraceuticals.
The seized stocks of Feroze-XT Tablets were manufactured at Rodge Formulations Pvt Ltd, Solan, Himachal Pradesh and marketed by ZeRemedies, Hyderabad.
The seized products were falsely manufactured under a food license (FSSAI license) and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical. According to the label composition of the products, they are classified as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Such products must be manufactured only under a drug license issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, they must meet the quality standards prescribed in the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP) as mandate, the DG, TSDCA, V B Kamalsan Reddy said.
