Mulugu: As the entire world is focused on protecting Tigers on the occasion of International Tigers Day, a team of police led by Eturnagram Circle Inspector K Kiran Kumar arrested two persons and recovered an adult tiger skin from them near Mullakutta bridge (Godavari) under Eturngaram police station limits on Thursday. The arrested were identified as Thirumalesh of Wazeedu village in Mulugu district, and Satyam of Chandur village of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
Presenting them before the media here, SP Sangram Singh Patil said the prime accused, Thirumalesh, used to visit his in-law’s house in Chandur village in Tarlaguda mandal of Chattisgarh often, and on one of the occasions, had been meeting with a person in the last three to four years.
“Thirumalesh received a call from a person a month ago in which he mentioned selling tiger skin and asked him to look for prospective buyers in Telangana. In turn, Thirumalesh contacted another person in Telangana state who expressed his willingness to buy the said tiger skin for Rs 30 lakhs. Meanwhile, Thirumalesh, who kept the tiger skin in the house of accused Satyam in Chandur village, along with Satyam was coming towards Eturnagaram in order to sell this illegally obtained tiger skin. On getting tip-off regarding this, the police team has nabbed them,” the SP added.
“During the interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in the crime. Following this, CI Eturnagaram, informed forest department officials regarding the seizure of the tiger skin, and a team of Forest officials lead by FDO Eturunagaram J Gopal Rao certified the skin as genuine tiger skin. A confession and seizure ‘panchanama’ was then prepared as per Wildlife Protection Act 1972,” the SP said adding that efforts are on to nab the remaining accused.
As the offence attracts several penal provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the case is being handed over to the forest department for further investigation. The team include SI-1, Eturunagaram, Srikanth Reddy, SI-2, Eturunagaram Shyam Sundar, police constables M Srinivas, K Kranthi, K Venu Kumar, Md Rafi and Md Taj.
