Mulugu: The Venkatapuram police arrested a Maoist militia member on Sunday and seized explosive material including 40 metre-Cordex wire, four detonators, one walkie-talkie (Manpack), two pressure cooker bombs, two tiffin box bombs, two electric wires bundles and batteries from him. The arrested was identified as Madavi Boodu (40) of Jella village of Venkatapuram Mandal in the district.
Disclosing the details at a press meet here on Monday, SP Sangram Singh G Patil said that a police team along with the CPRF personnel were conducting combing in the Pamunuru forest area and found some armed-members who were planting explosives with an intension to kill the police party.

“On seeing the police teams, they tried to escape. However, one of them was caught by the police along with some IEDs and explosive material and was brought to Venkatapuram police station immediately due to security risk in Pamunuru forest area,” he said. He added that the accused along with other militia members of the outlawed CPI Maoists were working as per the directions from their top leadership.
“The accused had participated in several unlawful and sabotage activities. He was involved in several cases of Venkatapuram police station. He assisted the Naxals in their activities by providing food and shelter and informing them about police party movement in the area. He trained by the Naxals on how to handle and plant landmines as well as spikes in order to kill the police teams,” the SP said.
“Due to active police movement in the area, this time we have been successful in recovering four landmines/IEDs (two pressure Cooker mine and two tiffin box mine),” the SP added.
